Laos’ once sleepy capital is fast developing into a modern Asian city, but evidence of its French ruled past can still be seen in the faded colonial architecture and Laos' own Arc de Triomphe, the central Patuxai Monument. The city also has a bustling riverside night market and a handful of interesting temples to explore, including the Pha That Luang (The Golden Temple) which is considered to be the most important temple in Laos.

Outside of the city lies the eccentric Buddha Park. This fascinating park was created by a Lao shaman in the 1950's and is filled with over 200 Buddhist and Hindu statues.
