asia
Home to the magnificent Tien Shan and Pamir-Alai mountain ranges, over 90 percent of the country is mountainous with 29 peaks over 4,000 metres. With over 50 national parks and reserves the country is a mecca for hikers, bikers and horse riders.
Traditionally a nomadic people, many Kyrgyz still lead a semi-nomadic lifestyle and traditional Bozui yurts can still be seen in the Alpine meadows during the summer months. A visit to one of these communities offers a fascinating insight into an ancient way of life.
For more urban pleasures, the capital city of Bishkek is green and pleasant with a good selection restaurants and bars to toast the start or end of your trip.
With so much of Kyrgyzstan being remote and geared towards outdoor adventure, you'll get most from your visit by travelling with an experienced group operator like G Adventures, Intrepid Travel or Exodus Travels.
