The Yukon boasts everything from isolated lodges under the swirling northern lights, to unique experiences - including dog sledding, flight seeing and canoeing. This exceptional environment is a true outdoor enthusiast's dream.

Manitoba offers one of the best opportunities to see the elusive polar bear. If you were a fan of the BBC’s incredible Frozen Planet series, many of the scenes were shot in Churchill Manitoba, the “Polar Bear Capital of the World”.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT NORTHERN CANADA?

From early June, temperatures rise and the summer begins. Temperatures peak in July & August around 26°C and with the warm weather come beluga whales in Manitoba and moose, black bear and caribou in the Yukon. It's a busier time of year for canoeing and hiking but with a bonus of far fewer crowds than elsewhere in Canada. This far north, long summer days stretch past midnight allowing plenty of time to explore the mountains and hot springs, go wildlife viewing, hike, canoe or soak up the Gold Rush and First Nations history.

From late August, autumn turns the Yukon foliage a blazing red and the northern lights begin to appear, whilst in Manitoba, polar bear viewing begins in Churchill from October.

Winter runs from mid November to April, with snowfall, beautiful frozen lakes and temperatures dropping to -40°C. This time of year is truly magical and perfect for dog sledding, ice fishing, winter festivals and the most spectacular northern lights show.
