With 250 miles of coastline, the windswept and rugged Península Valdés is one of the most important regions in South America for marine wildlife and offers fantastic viewing opportunities of these incredible animals in their natural habitat.

Connected to the mainland of Argentina by a thin strip of land, this UNESCO World Heritage Site welcomes whales, penguins and sea lions to name just a few. Southern right whales can often be seen between June and December as they stop to breed on their way to Antarctica. Sea lions and elephant seals can be seen on the beaches year round, with orcas coming here between September and April to hunt these playful creatures, often beaching themselves while in action. If it’s penguins you’re wanting to see, September to March is the best time to travel.

Choose to stay in a lodge on the peninsula itself, or use the nearby town of Puerto Madryn as a base, which offers easy access to the wildlife of Península Valdés.
