Trailfinders' Robert Matthews gives an insight into The Ritz-Carlton, Koh Samui
The Ritz-Carlton, Koh Samui Expert Review
Robert Matthews
The Ritz-Carlton Koh Samui is a wonderful hotel that certainly feels luxurious.
The staff are amazing and always on hand to help. The suites are enormous (bigger than our one bed London flat!), we stayed in a Seaview Suite which had amazing views from the large balcony.
The resort is hilly but you can order a buggy at any time of the day to avoid any steep hills. The main pool is a great place to relax, and the adjacent lunch restaurant offers great food. Breakfast is amazing - a huge selection on offer and the pastries were some of the best I have ever eaten.
The hotel offers complimentary kayak hire between 12pm and 1pm, and there’s even complimentary mini golf which I was very happy to see. There are four restaurants on site for dinner and we ate at the Chinese and Thai restaurants – both very high quality. The other nights we ate in the local town which is a 20 minute walk away - you have to take a torch in the evening as there are a lack of street lights. You can also get to Chaweng on the free shuttle which runs four times a day and can eat there in the evening and visit the beach.
The hotel is suitable for couples and families.
Top tip: the hotel offers a free cocktail evening which runs three times a week between 6pm and 7pm. It’s definitely worth going to and there are great views from the terrace.
