Shangri-La Chiang Mai Expert Review
Megan Denton Brown
Shangri-La Chiang Mai is a very good 5★ hotel in a perfect location for exploring the city. The night markets are a five to ten minute walk away with the loads of souvenir shopping and multiple street food markets with live music and entertainment, so a perfect place to spend the evening right by the hotel. The old town was about a ten minute drive away but using Grab taxis or tuk-tuks was really convenient and affordable.
The rooms were very spacious with great views on either side of the hotel, and I think the bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in! Breakfast had so much choice and the staff were so helpful - the concierge team were well worth talking to, giving us recommendations on things we might have missed if not for them!
The pool was lovely and would be perfect for families as they had a splash park area but was equally relaxing and quiet for those without children. Pool bar food and drinks were also quite well priced so worth spending an afternoon there to chill out if there's time.
Top tip: Head to the Night Bazaar markets; they are open every evening and had the best souvenir shopping out of everywhere I visited in Thailand! I'd also recommend having dinner there at least one night, as there are so many different street food style options and all very good value.
