Hintok River Camp @ Hellfire Pass, Kanchanaburi

The Hintok River Camp @ Hellfire Pass is an excellent way of exploring this part of Thailand. The war history is harrowing yet interesting. The train ride takes you through the stunning scenery, but you can't really take it in unless you stay at this camp. Here you can really appreciate the nature and the way of life on the river.

The camp itself is great. The service is 5★ and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were very comfortable despite being a ‘tent’, and the aircon works very effectively with the windows and doors zipped up. The bathroom out the back of the tent is permanent and equipped with all the amenities you'd expect from a hotel of this standard. The natural pool down by the river is so peaceful and a great way to spend a couple of hours after the activities are finished for the day.

The BBQ buffet offers a variety of Thai dishes, all of them delicious. There were no western options, but they will cater for dietary requirements.

The activities around the camp are great as well, and the local village you visit is a Burmese community with a mixture of Thai-Burmese culture.
