Housed in a fully restored and sympathetically extended 1920s mansion this classic historic hotel is an integral part of Malacca’s long and fascinating history. Located on the banks of the Malacca River just a short stroll from the 17th Century Stadthuys, Christ Church and the bustling Jonker Street heritage area, this delightful property exudes colonial grace and charm. The attractive rooms feature timber floors, four poster beds, claw foot bath tubs and bespoke furnishings reminiscent of old Malacca. There is also an outdoor pool, an excellent spa and an eclectic restaurant serving both western and MalaccaPortuguese (Kristang) cuisine.

Trailfinders' Carrie Hawes gives an insight into The Majestic Malacca
The Majestic Malacca Expert Review
Carrie Hawes
The Majestic Malacca is a lovely heritage property with lots of period furniture and photos. It’s not quite as polished as its Kuala Lumpur counterpart, but that seems to fit Malacca's general ambiance and charm. Rooms were of a good size for a city hotel with huge claw foot bath.
The hotel offers a good buffet breakfast in the lovingly restored dining room. There’s also a classy bar with a two for one happy hour. The spa seemed very popular and was fully booked during our stay.
Location is about a 15 minute walk from the main heritage tourist sites and Jonker Street shops. It’s a great walk though taking in lots of interesting old architecture, local shops and food places. Malacca doesn't really have a single must see sight, it’s all about wandering around finding quaint old buildings and cool coffee shops anyway.
Probably Malacca’s best modern restaurant Bulldog is literally round the corner, and the best old school restaurant, Wild Coriander, is a 10 minute walk away.
Top tip: Every Friday and Saturday Jonker Street (15 minutes’ walk from Majestic) has very popular night market with lots of interesting food stalls. Its busy but great fun.
