Trailfinders' Kelly Mills gives an insight into Gaya Island Resort, Pulau Gaya
Gaya Island Resort, Pulau Gaya Expert Review
Kelly Mills
This is a beautiful property surrounded by lush rainforest with views onto the imposing Mt Kinabalu (weather permitting). Upon arrival we were met with exceptional service, the glassy waters of the bay and picturesque backdrop of the buildings perched in the hills. This hotel is peaceful, and a great option for couples or those seeking relaxation after time exploring Sabah.
The hotel runs a daily programme of activities including: yoga classes, discovery trails, snorkelling, mangrove kayaking excursions, turtle talks and movies under the stars. Some are free of charge while others have a fee.
Guests can take a 5 minute boat journey to the hotel's private beach. Here there is a restaurant with a set menu, sun loungers and the turtle conservation centre.
The rooms are spacious and very beautiful. Note, the bath and bedroom are open plan.
The buffet restaurant had a great selection, with Malay, Western and Chinese cuisine. 2 for 1 happy hour drinks were also offered.
Top tip: make sure to check out the activity schedule upon arrival to plan your stay.
