Maya Ubud

Maya Ubud is a tranquil haven just a short drive from the centre of Ubud.

The location of this hotel is stunning; set between rice paddies and jungle. There are two pools, an infinity pool close to the main restaurant and lobby, and the more secluded jungle pool which offers a peaceful ambience and amazing views across the rainforest and a river below.

We stayed in a Pool Villa which was fantastic. The villas are beautifully furnished/decorated and feel completely private. The pool is a decent size and gets the sun for most of the day. The patio area is a lovely place to relax and offers beautiful views across the rainforest. I'd definitely recommend upgrading to the Pool Villa if budget allows.

Breakfast in the main restaurant was a buffet and offered plenty of choice. The Treetop Bar next door offers daily afternoon tea between 4-5pm, followed by happy hour from 5-6pm, and offers lovely views across the resort.

Staff were very friendly and the service we received was fantastic. The hotel offers a range of complimentary activities which change each day; we did the morning guided rice paddy walk which was great and offered an interesting insight into the local area. The hotel also offers an hourly shuttle into central Ubud, the last one departing at 5pm. After this, taxis are cheap and easy to arrange.

Top tip: Download the Gojek app (a Balinese version of Uber) for a cheap and convenient way to travel around Ubud and Bali. A motorcycle taxi from Maya to the centre of Ubud cost approx. 50p per trip, they can pick up/drop off from the hotel lobby, and we never waited longer than three minutes for a ride. Cars (including comfort options) are also available, and we booked a comfort vehicle between Ubud and Seminyak for just £7.
