Trailfinders' Hannah Farmery gives an insight into Camps Bay Retreat
Camps Bay Retreat Expert Review
Hannah Farmery
I really enjoyed my stay at Camps Bay Retreat - it's a blend of traditional style in the main manor house and modern in the rooms across the rope bridge. We stayed in a Sky Room and really liked it - great layout, views and outside decking to sit on in the evenings.
The food is really good! Breakfast is a choice of two items from a menu; portions are very generous, and I was always full on leaving. There's also a daily afternoon tea for guests between 3pm-5pm.
The location is quieter than the V&A Waterfront and Camps Bay main street, but it's only a 15 minute taxi/Uber to the V&A (approx. £4), and just a 10 minute walk from Camps Bay's bars and restaurants. Its sister hotel is the Bay Hotel on the main street and you can use the facilities there such as the gym.
There's a gate at the bottom of the steps through the hotel's gardens that brings you out on to the road into Camps Bay. From there it's a 10 minute walk down to the restaurants - we found it a really handy shortcut!
Head to Fisherman's Rock (5 minute walk) for great sunsets. It's a lovely spot to sit right next to the sea as the sun goes down!
