Southern Laos Holidays

Boasting impressive waterfalls, peaceful islands and numerous coffee plantations, southern Laos offers visitors beautiful scenery and a laidback ambience. Paske is the capital of this region and the gateway to southern Laos, this lively town has plenty of accommodation and eateries. This is a good base to explore, though many travellers choose to stay in nearby Champasak, situated on the Mekong River, which has an even more relaxed vibe.

In this area you can explore sleepy towns, lush plantations and ancient ruins, including the atmospheric, Angkor-era temple of Wat Phou. Further south is Si Phan Don (4000 Islands), where the wide Mekong River is dotted with thousands of tiny islands (many uninhabited), with streams, rapids and waterfalls flowing in between the islands. This is a wonderful area to explore by bicycle and boat.

The Bolaven Plateau is just a short drive from Pakse, this little known area is filled with coffee plantations, small villages and beautiful waterfalls.
