Itinerary
Days 1-2 Dallas
Touchdown in the city of Dallas, affectionately known as ‘the Big D’. Soak up views of the stunning skyline from the top of the Reunion tower, one of the city’s most famous landmarks, or visit unique Pioneer Plaza which commemorates the trails that brought settlers to Dallas. Catch a show at Deep Ellum, famed for theatre and comedy, and meander through the colourful Design District filled with art galleries and hip gastropubs.
Day 3 Dallas to Fort Worth
Hop on Amtrak’s Texas Eagle train to neighbouring Fort Worth – a short journey which brings a dramatic change in scenery.
Days 4-5 Fort Worth
A contrast from cosmopolitan Dallas, historic Fort Worth oozes cowboy character. Watch the spectacle of the twice daily cattle drives at the Stockyards, or even the weekly rodeo, then perhaps pay a visit to the Cowboy Hall of Fame. After your first taste of tantalising Texas barbecue, put on your boots and two-step the night away at the world’s largest honky tonk.
Day 6 Fort Worth to Austin
All aboard the Amtrak again to atmospheric Austin, the Texas state capital known for its incredible live music and liberal spirit – best summarised in its iconic slogan, ‘Keep Austin Weird’! At dusk, head to Congress Avenue Bridge and watch in awe as over a million resident bats awake and soar into the night.
Days 7-8 Austin
Venture down to vibrant Sixth Street in the evenings, the epicentre of this music city with a whole personality of its own, bustling with bars and music venues playing every genre imaginable. For those feeling adventurous, Austin is a year-round playground for outdoor enthusiasts, offering scenic trails, crystal-clear lakes and easy access to the lush Texas Hill Country.
Day 9 Austin to San Antonio
Continue to your final stop: beautiful San Antonio, a city steeped in history and basking in southern charm.
Days 10-12 San Antonio
Stroll along the San Antonio Riverwalk, a weaving waterway dotted with lively bars and restaurants serving the city’s most famous fusion, Tex-Mex! Pay a visit to the Alamo, one of the most important memorials in the USA, and explore the maze of stalls that makes up Market Square, a huge Mexican market selling local artisans’ crafts. Alternatively, the trendy Pearl District is brimming with independent shops, craft breweries and cool cocktail bars – the perfect spot for a frozen margarita.
