Itinerary
Days 1-2 Seattle, USA
The foodie scene here is draw enough, but once you add the views from atop the Space Needle as well – Seattle is truly something special. Taste your way around Pike Place Market, visit the Starbucks Reserve Roastery or perhaps check out the unique art scene at Chihuly Gardens & Glass.
Days 3-5 Seattle to Olympic NP
Pick up your campervan and head straight to the jewel of the national park system, the magnificent Olympic National Park. It is so magnificent, as it is largely untouched given that no roads have been built in the park so this is a great wilderness to explore. Spend your first couple of nights in Port Angeles on the coast as the gateway to your exploration of the park, before moving to Lake Quinault in the south to ensure you do not miss an inch of this park.
Day 6 Olympic NP to Mount Rainier NP
After enjoying the sights of a coastal national park, it’s time to head in land to a volcanic national park. Now Mount Rainier may be visible from Seattle, but there is nothing like getting up close to this active volcano.
Day 7 Mount Rainier NP to Chelan
It’s time to start heading north to the border, but first, take a detour to see the Grand Coulee Dam, the largest concrete structure in the US. It’s so large, full life-size images of the Statue of Liberty can be projected on it! Continue to Lake Chelan and set up camp lakeside for the night deep in the Cascade Mountains.
Days 8-9 Chelan to Penticton, Canada
Get all of you paperwork together as today, you cross into Canada. Travel along Canada’s warmest freshwater lake, Osoyoos Lake and double take as you realise that you are travelling through a bona fide desert…in Canada...with lizards, snakes and cacti! Once the surprise has worn off, soak up the beautiful vineyard scenery of the Okanagan Valley and savour your way around the wineries, while also taking a break to dip from the beautiful beaches that dot the lakes.
Days 10-11 Penticton to Revelstoke
Can you hear The Mountain Paradise calling? Make your way to the playground of Revelstoke and just see why it received this name as it is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in all of Canada. Spend the next two days being adventurous, but also taking the time to soak up the incredible scenery.
Days 12-13 Revelstoke to Lake Louise
Passing through Yoho National Park, with quick stops at Emerald Lake and Natural Bridge, nothing can prepare you for the beautiful sight ahead. Lake Louise is famed world over for being so spectacular and spending a couple of nights here to hike the trails and explore the surrounding Banff National Park will provide some of the best photos of your trip.
Day 14 Lake Louise to Jasper
Coastal scenery, volcanoes, desert, vineyards and spectacular lakes – now it’s time for an entirely different landscape, the Icefields Parkway. This four hour drive winds its way through the Canadian Rockies passing glaciers, mountain peaks and forests so keep your eyes peeled for wildlife en route and perhaps stop at Athabasca Glacier to ride an Ice Explorer over it.
Days 15-16 Jasper NP
As Jasper National Park is the largest of the parks so far, it definitely has a much wilder feel and seems almost quiet despite the high volume of visitors year on year. Visit Maligne Lake, the largest in the Rockies and take a cruise to Spirit Island for iconic views or perhaps head to the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge for a feel of a luxury Canadian lodge experience.
Days 17-18 Jasper to Clearwater
After crossing the highest point of the Rockies, Mount Robson, you’re now in BC country and Wells Gray Provincial Park. En route, a stop at Blue River for a river safari is a must as this is probably the best area to hopefully catch sight of the mighty grizzly bear. Wells Gray has plenty of hiking trails to follow with incredible mountain vistas to admire, but Helmcken Falls has to be on your list of sights to see.
Day 19 Clearwater to Lillooet
Hiking, biking and ziplining are in store today at the ski resort of Sun Peaks, before learning of the regions railway heritage at Kamloops, famed for being the halfway point on the iconic Rocky Mountaineer rail journey. Follow the Fraser River and set up camp in Lillooeet, enjoying a campfire while admiring the abundance of stars riverside.
Days 20-23 Lillooet to Vancouver
Continuing south through the narrow and dramatic Fraser River Canyon to the laidback coastal city of Vancouver. The campground at Burnaby Cariboo has a regular bus service into the city so is a great location to still connect with nature, while enjoying the sights of the city over the net few days. Visit Stanley Park, the Harbour Centre, Granville Island and take a walk across Capilano Suspension Bridge or head up Grouse Mountain for panoramic views.
Days 24-25 Vancouver to Seattle, USA
Start making your way back to the border of the US, admiring the islands of Samish Bay as you make your way to Mount Vernon along the 21 mile Chuckanut Drive. Then it’s time for your adventure to come to an end as you drop your motorhome back off in Seattle.
Additional Options: Want to see more? Then extend your holiday to include the Vancouver Island Road Trip extension before heading back to Seattle.
