Arrive in DC and admire the city’s many monuments including the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials. Visit world-class museums and explore cosmopolitan neighbourhoods such as Georgetown and Adams Morgan.

Day 4  Washington DC to Shenandoah
Pick up your car and head to Virginia.

Day 5  Shenandoah National Park
Soak up sensational views from Skyline Drive – this scenic road traverses the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It’s not all about driving though, there’s plenty of hiking trails to discover.

Day 6  Shenandoah to Roanoke
Leave Shenandoah behind and join the start of the Blue Ridge Parkway, this picturesque road runs all the way south to the Smoky Mountains. Break your journey in Roanoke, the ‘Capital of the Blue Ridge’.

Day 7  Roanoke to Asheville
Head south and cross into North Carolina, where captivating and hip Asheville is nestled at the foothills of the Smoky Mountains.

Days 8-9  Asheville
Visit the opulent Biltmore Estate, the Vanderbilt’s Gilded Age mansion, discover the galleries and museums of downtown or explore the nearby Nantahala National Forest. In the evenings sup beer from one of Asheville’s numerous breweries.

Day 10  Asheville to Gatlinburg
Over on the Tennessee side of the ‘Smokies’ you’ll find the kitsch tourist town of Gatlinburg. This region has a long history of producing moonshine and today the distilleries are thriving once more, albeit legally this time! Why not join a distillery tour to sample this local liquor.

Day 11  Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Forested mountains, deep valleys, plentiful waterfalls and spellbinding views await in America’s most popular national park.

Day 12  Gatlinburg to Nashville
Continue on to fun loving Nashville and drop off your car.

Days 13-15  Nashville
Listen to country music at the Grand Ole Opry or discover new talent from the aspiring singer-songwriters at the Bluebird Café. Tuck into some Nashville hot chicken before revelling the night away in the honky tonks of Lower Broadway.
