Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive in Pittsburgh
Welcome to Pittsburgh! This friendly city boasts an array of amazing attractions and sightseeing as well as a charming riverfront location that’s ideal for scenic walks and leisurely bike rides. On arrival at the airport, jump in a taxi or shuttle bus for an easy journey to the city centre. Check into your well-located hotel in the heart of the Golden Triangle – Pittsburgh’s vibrant downtown.
Day 2 City Highlights
Situated between three rivers, Pittsburgh's wonderful setting is enhanced by an abundance of picturesque bridges. In fact, with more than 400, it has the most bridges of any city in the USA. Time to explore and you'll find a handsome, walkable downtown that mixes Beaux Arts and Art Deco buildings with gleaming, modern architecture, as well as plenty of parks and green spaces. A 'must do' attraction is to ride one of the historic funicular railways (or Inclines as the locals call them) up the steep hillside – you'll be rewarded with superb views of Pittsburgh's magnificent skyline. In the evening craft beer lovers can discover why Pittsburgh is regularly voted the best city in America for beer drinkers!
Day 3 Arts & Culture
Once known as the Steel City due to its industrial heritage of steel manufacturing, Pittsburgh is now renowned for its wealth of artistic and cultural attractions. Here you'll find the Carnegie Museums of Art & Natural History, whilst the Andy Warhol Museum is dedicated to the city's most famous son and houses his iconic Pop Art. Head over to Randyland – a gloriously quirky and colourful open-air art museum. In the Cultural District, you'll find a thriving restaurant scene as well as a plethora of performing arts venues showcasing everything from ballet and opera to Broadway musicals.
Day 4 Game Day
Pittsburghers are passionate sports fans and if you time your visit right you'll be able to take in a game. Try and catch a home run at a Pirates baseball game between April and September or watch the Penguins face off on the ice from Oct to April. Perhaps the most famed and popular team in the city is the Steelers who play American football in the Heinz Field from September to January. Even if you can't get a ticket to the game you'll still be able to soak up the electric atmosphere in this sports-mad city, so head to a bar and cheer on the home team!
Day 5 Departure Day
For your last day in the City of Bridges, why not visit the delightful Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Gardens or head to the Heinz History Center to learn about the history and culture of western Pennsylvania. For a hearty lunch stop by Primanti Bros, a Pittsburgh institution famous for its huge, meaty sandwiches and afterwards go for a stroll along a riverside walking trail. Later in the afternoon head back to the airport for your flight home.
