Some of the most spectacular desert scenery in the world is found in the south of Jordan at Wadi Rum, a place of dramatic beauty which provides an ideal environment for trekking. Millennia of erosion have formed wonderful mountains that rise out of the desert sands, creating exciting terrain for you to explore. Throughout the trip you will be accompanied by local Bedouin and we shall be camping as they do, under the stars. The trip will finish with a day visit to the ancient rock city of Petra, a must for any visitor to Jordan.

Itinerary
Day 1 Amman
Arrive in Amman and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.
Day 2 Wadi Rum
Today head to Wadi Rum. Before embarking on a desert trek, visit Wadi Rum visitor centre and take in the sight of ‘The 7 Pillars of Wisdom’, a spectacular rock formation with seven fluted turrets. Spend the evening at a private campsite run by the local Bedouin people and enjoy dinner prepared in a traditional way known as a zarb.
Day 3 Siq el Barrah
Traverse across Siq el Barrah, a magnificent desert canyon with immense rock walls. The trek is through open desert and there is a tangible sense of wilderness as we pass sandstone mountains and rocky outcrops. Set up this evening’s camp beneath the cool shade of two rocky mountains, Rakaa and Mharrak.
Day 4 Jebel Umm Fruth
We begin today by heading to Jebel Burdah. Burdah Bridge is a striking rock formation that arches from one rock mass to another. The route has sections of scrambling and some of them involve the use of ropes. In the afternoon, continue the trek through the desert, enjoying spectacular panoramic views as you go. This evening’s campsite is atop sand dunes nearby Jebel Umm Fruth in the south east corner of Wadi Rum Desert.
Day 5 Um Fruth Rock-Bridge
There is some easy level scrambling as we make the ascent up to the Um Fruth rock-bridge. As you traverse across remote red sand dunes enjoy spectacular views throughout. There is also the opportunity to see historic rock inscriptions before setting up camp for the night in the crook of a desert mountain.
Day 6 Petra
Before heading for Petra enjoy one last walk or optional camel trek through Wadi Umm Al Ishrim. Enroute there is the option to stop at ‘Little Petra’, home to a collection of well-preserved Nabataean ruins, smaller than those at Petra but equally as impressive.
Day 7 Petra
Enjoy a full day exploring one of the world’s most spectacular archaeological sites – the ancient city of Petra. Wind your way through the narrow gorge of the Siq to reach arguably the most iconic image of Jordan, the breathtaking Treasury. Spend some time exploring the vast network of hidden passages and admire the intricacy of the fascinating rock carvings. Transfer back to Amman in the evening.
