Meet the HeroRats at the APOPO

Change your view of rats forever as you visit the APOPO centre and meet the furry creatures who are helping to transform the lives of rural communities in Cambodia. Using their super senses to detect landmines, these rats truly are heroes! Spend some time learning about the impact of the explosives that lie buried in the Cambodian countryside and get first-hand experience about this creative solution to the problem. Met the HeroRATS (otherwise known as Mine Detection Rats) who have been trained to sniff out explosives. These creatures are too light to set off the mines and in 20 minutes they can cover an area which would normally take 3 days with a metal detector, dramatically speeding up the detection process. The centre also gives a background of APOPO's work and a chance to meet the rats themselves! Every guided tour is led by a mine action professional with real-life experience of humanitarian demining.
