Itinerary
Days 1-2 Kuching
Arrive in Kuching and perhaps take a wander along the local spice and fish markets on the waterfront. On day two travel to a nearby fishing village for a boat trip up the coast to Bako National Park, Sarawak’s oldest national park. Take a scenic walk through the rainforest to the beautiful beach at Teluk Pandan Kecil, looking out for quirky proboscis monkeys before returning to Kuching.
Day 3 Kuching
Today, visit the Semenggoh Orangutan Sanctuary, a rehabilitation centre set in lush surroundings. This evening stroll down to the riverbank and watch tambang ferries glide by, visit Sarawak Museum, or head out to the hawker markets to experience the local seafood.
Days 4-5 Kuching to Mulu National Park
Fly to Mulu and head into the heart of one of Asia’s most spectacular national parks, Gunung Mulu where you’ll stay for the next four nights. Take to the some of the selfguided trails, or take to the treetops on the world’s longest tree based canopy walkway. On day five, simply kick back with a book and enjoy the sounds of the nearby jungle before an afternoon excursion to catch the sunset flight of the bats at Deer Cave.
Days 6-7 Mulu National Park
Travel to the Clearwater and Wind caves, containing Asia’s longest underwater river. Afterwards hike through undisturbed native jungle to Camp 5, nestled at the end of Melinau Gorge. Tonight you’ll sleep in these wonderful surrounds on raised open-air platforms. On day 7 tackle the isolated Headhunters’ Trail as you trek through dense jungle surrounded by stunningly diverse flora.
Day 8 Mulu National Park to Labuan Island
Travel to Limbang and catch a ferry to Labuan Island where you’ll have a free afternoon at a beach resort. Relax and recover after yesterday’s trek, chilling out with a cold drink and a good book.
Days 9-10 Labuan Island to Kota Kinabalu
Take some free time to wonder around town or head to the beach for a swim before catching the afternoon ferry to Kota Kinabalu. Your tour concludes after breakfast on day 10.
