Itinerary
Day 1 Kuching
Arrive in Kuching and transfer to your hotel. Later in the evening meet your fellow travellers at a welcome meeting and dinner.
Day 2 Kuching to Batang Ai National Park
This morning, begin your journey to Batang Ai National Park, the remote lush rainforest home to the highest density of wild orangutans in central Borneo and the local Iban people. This evening, enjoy a longboat tour down the Delok River in search of wildlife.
Day 3 Batang Ai National Park
Take a longboat up the river and soak up the idyllic setting with a walk to nearby waterfalls. Later, visit a local Iban longhouse and perfect your culinary skills with a jungle forage and traditional cookery class.
Day 4 Batang Ai National Park to Kuching
Head back to Kuching with a lunch stop at a local coffee shop en route. This afternoon is at leisure to explore the city.
Days 5-6 Kuching to Mulu National Park
Fly to Mulu and head into the heart of the spectacular national park, where you will stay for the next two nights. Enjoy a scenic jungle walk to Lang Cave, then watch as millions of bats fly out of Deer Cave at sunset and ripple through the night’s sky. On day 6, travel to Clearwater and Wind Caves and view the enormous limestone stalagmite and stalactite structures.
Days 7-8 Mulu National Park to Kota Kinabalu
This morning, fly to Kota Kinabalu, the bustling capital of the Sabah state. This evening enjoy a cocktail on one of the city’s rooftop bars whilst watching the sun set over the stylish skyline. On day 8, head to the local food market and sample some of the delicious delicacies.
Day 9 Kota Kinabalu to Kinabatangan River
Take a flight to Sandakan, then head to the jetty for your boat ride to the Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort, where you will stay for the next two nights. This afternoon take a river cruise and keep a close eye out for some exotic native creatures such as crocodiles, wild orangutan, proboscis monkeys and kingfishers to name a few.
Day 10 Kinabatangan River
Enjoy an early morning river cruise as you watch the sun rise and search for more birds and wildlife. This afternoon you will have the opportunity to meet the local Orang Sungai people to see how daily life plays out before returning to the river for a night time cruise.
Day 11 Kinabatangan River to Sandakan
Return to Sandakan by boat and visit the orangutans at the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, watch the delightful creatures as they swing on ropes and vines. Later, visit the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre to learn about this endangered species.
Day 12 Sandakan
Your tour concludes after breakfast.
