Itinerary
Days 1-2 Sepilok
Transfer to your lodge in Sepilok and enjoy your first afternoon soaking up the peaceful surroundings. The next day visit the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre to see this lesser known bear species – named after the crescent shaped patch of fur on their chests resembling a rising sun. Head to nearby Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and learn about the fantastic work they do. Walk along the wooden boardwalk through the rainforest to observe these amazing animals in their natural environment and watch their morning feeding session. Continue to the Rainforest Discovery Centre and explore the canopy walkway nestled high into the trees, keeping your eyes peeled for wildlife all around.
Days 3-4 Kinabatangan River
Travel onwards to the mighty Kinabatangan River and check in at your riverside lodge. Spend a couple of days embarking on river cruises in search of the river’s diverse wildlife. You may spot orangutans, proboscis monkeys, pygmy elephants and crocodiles along the river banks, as well as an abundance of other wildlife. Mornings on the river are often misty, creating a truly atmospheric setting as the sun rises.
Days 5-6 Kota Kinabalu
After two early morning starts, enjoy a leisurely breakfast before transferring to Sandakan airport for your flight to Kota Kinabalu for time to unwind and explore the city at your leisure. Why not explore one of the vibrant night markets and take a stroll along the waterfront?
Days 7-8 Kuching
Located on the banks of the Sarawak River, Kuching combines beautiful colonial buildings, colourful Chinese shophouses and a stylish waterfront promenade. Take a guided tour of Kuching’s main highlights including the Brooke Gallery at Fort Margherita, the City Hall and Kuching’s oldest Chinese temple before exploring the charming colonial city centre on foot. Later embark on a sunset cruise along the Sarawak River.
Day 9 Kuching to Sri Aman
Head to Semenggoh Wildlife Centre in time for the orangutan’s morning feeding session. After, drive through rural Sarawak, stopping for lunch in the very rural town of Lachau en route to your hotel in Sri Aman.
Day 10 Batang Ai NP
This morning depart for Batang Ai. Board a traditional longboat and journey on the scenic Batang Ai Riverlooking out for wildlife en route to visiting a local Iban longhouse. Receive a traditional tribal welcome and learn about daily life in the jungle, before enjoying a tasty and authentic lunch.
Day 11 Sri Aman to Kuching
After a leisurely breakfast, depart Sri Aman and continue by road to Kuching, arriving in the city late afternoon.
Days 12-13 Bako NP
Drive to the village of Bako for a short boat ride into Bako National Park, Sarawak’s oldest national park. Spend the day exploring the many jungle trails which offer fantastic opportunities to view an abundance of wildlife such as unique proboscis monkeys and bearded pigs. Head back to Kuching for your final night before transferring to the airport the following morning.
