Itinerary
Days 1-2 Sandakan
Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting after a complimentary arrival transfer. On day 2, transfer to Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary, set up to help reintroduce these wonderful creatures back into the wild. Watch as they swing into view and see young orangutans in their nursery as they learn to climb on a specially constructed jungle gym.
Days 3-4 Sandakan to the Kinabatangan River
Learn about the city’s past at the Sandakan War Memorial, which marks the starting point of the tragic Sandakan Death Marches. Continue to your jungle lodge, located next to the Kinabatangan River, an ideal place to relax and take in the lush surrounds. In the afternoon take a river cruise, keeping your eyes peeled for wild elephants, crocodiles, proboscis monkeys and orangutans. On day 4 it’s all about the wildlife today as you enjoy two river cruises, one early morning and one in the afternoon.
Day 5 Kinabatangan River to Kundasang
Visit the Gomantong Cave, an extensive limestone formation that is home to a thriving community of bats and swiftlets. In the afternoon, drive to Kundasang, a mountainous town at the foot of Mount Kinabalu.
Day 6 Kundasang to Kota Kinabalu
Travel west to the rural village of Kampung Kiau where you’ll learn about how coffee beans are cultivated during a coffee house visit. Later, visit Everything Pineapple – a sustainable community-based project and stroll along a herbal trail, discovering how plants are used in local cuisine. Try these dishes before driving to Kota Kinabalu.
Days 7-8 Kota Kinabalu to Manukan Island
Embark on a short boat ride to Manukan Island. The rest of day 7 is free for you to swim or explore the island at your leisure. On day 8, enjoy a snorkelling trip to see an array of coral and brightly coloured marine life before a relaxing afternoon in this stunning slice of paradise.
Days 9-10 Manukan Island to Kota Kinabalu
Return to the mainland and perhaps visit the intriguing Mari Mari Cultural Village, or visit the Sabah Museum to learn about the state’s past on an optional activity. Your tour ends after breakfast on day 10.
