Itinerary
Day 1 Lima
Welcome to Peru’s capital city, Lima! Transfer to the hotel to meet your Tour Leader and fellow travellers.
Day 2 Lima to Nazca
Depart Lima this morning and head through the driest regions on earth to the oasis town of Nazca, where the rest of the day is free to relax or explore.
Day 3 Nazca to Arequipa
Today you have the chance to climb nearby viewing platforms for views over the infamous lines etched into the desert: from birds to spiders to whales and geometrical figures. After dinner board a coach for an overnight journey south, to the volcanic landscapes of the Andean Mountains.
Day 4 Arequipa
Arrive in Arequipa this morning, a city spectacularly located at the foot of the volcanic slopes of El Misti. The rest of the day is free to explore at your leisure, perhaps visit the town’s striking churches orsoak in the atmosphere of this beautiful city while enjoying a beverage in one of the cafes overlooking the main square.
Day 5 Arequipa to Chivay
After breakfast travel to Chivay by private bus, keep an eye out for llamas and alpacas en route and perhaps choose an optional bath in the hot springs later in the afternoon.
Day 6 Chivay to Puno
Today leave Chivay behind and head to Puno, nestling in a bay at the north western tip of Lake Titicaca. En route visit a spectacular river gorge of the Colca Canyon which measures twice the depth of the more famous Grand Canyon.
Day 7 Puno to Taquile Island
Leave Puno behind as you board a boat to Lake Titicaca to explore the floating reed islands, home to Uros people who live on the lake itself. Continue to the island of Taquile, where you spend the night in a local village house.
Day 8 Taquile Island to Puno
This morning is free to explore this beautiful island, perhaps visit the market to purchase locals embroidery handiwork and watch a little show of traditional music and dance. Return to Puno later afternoon.
Day 9 Puno to Cusco
Rice early and travel to Cusco by public coach. En route stop at the small market of La Raya and the Inca ruin of the Temple of Wiracocha.
Days 10-11 Cusco to Aguas Calientes
Enjoy a morning city walking tour around the colourful streets of Cusco. The afternoon is free for you to further explore this incredible city, perhaps sample the local pisco. On day 11, visit the astonishing sites of Machu Picchu and witness possibly one of the most famous panoramas in the world.
Day 12 Aguas Calientes to Cusco
This morning, choose to climb the steep peaks of either Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu Mountain where you will be rewarded with world-beating views of Machu Picchu.
Days 13-14 Cusco
Today is free for you to explore Cusco and enjoy its lively atmosphere, perhaps go white water rafting on the Urubamba River if you feel more adventures. Your tour finishes the following day after breakfast.
