Itinerary
Day 1 Lima
Welcome to Peru! Your adventure begins with a welcome briefing this evening and your first taste of Peruvian cuisine with dinner at a seafront restaurant.
Day 2 Lima to Arequipa
This morning rise early for a flight to Arequipa, also known as the White City thanks to the pale volcanic stone used to build many of its colonial buildings. After lunch at a typical Arequipa Piccanteria you will explore the historic centre on a city tour.
Days 3-4 Arequipa to Colca Canyon
Take a spectacular drive over the Andean high plains to Colca Canyon, one of the world’s deepest canyons. The next two nights will be spent at a lodge overlooking the Colca River with its own natural hot springs. The following day you have a full day to explore the Colca Canyon, from spotting Andean condors to visiting ancient tombs. You will also visit the nearby pre-Incan ruins of Uyo Uyo.
Days 5-6 Colca Canyon to Lake Titicaca
Drive through the high mountain plains to Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca, stopping on route to visit the pre-Inca burial towers of Sillustani. Your hotel is perfectly located on the shores of the lake to watch the sunset and a full day of exploration follows; with visits to the floating islands of Uros and Taquile.
Day 7 Lake Titicaca to Cusco
This morning travel to Cusco stopping en route for lunch. On arrival you will have an introductory walking tour of this fabulous city.
Day 8 Cusco to Sacred Valley
After further exploration of what Cusco has to offer you will head down into the Sacred Valley to the Incan fortress and village of Ollantaytambo, where many streets and facades remain unchanged since Inca times.
Day 9 Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu
Rise early this morning for a scenic train journey through the Urubamba River Valley to KM 104 where your one day Inca Trail Trek begins. Stop for a boxed lunch in the ruins of Winay Wayna before reaching the Sun Gate where you will get your first glimpse of Machu Picchu. Head to Aguas Calientes by bus for a well-deserved dinner this evening in preparation for your early return to Machu Picchu.
Day 10 Machu Picchu to Sacred Valley
Beat the crowds by taking an early bus back to Machu Picchu, one of the most staggering marvels of the ancient world. Explore the ruins and enjoy the spectacular mountain backdrop before taking the train back to Ollantaytambo.
Days 11-12 Sacred Valley to Cusco
This morning depart the Sacred Valley and visit the traditional weaving community of Chincheros where you will have the unique opportunity to enjoy a traditional Andean pachamanca lunch which is hosted by and supports the local community. Pachamanca is a method of preparing food whereby the food is wrapped up and buried in the earth with hot stones to cook slowly. After lunch, return to Cusco where the rest of the day and the following day is at leisure.
Days 13-14 Cusco to Puerto Maldonado
Leave Cusco early and take a short flight to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival transfer to the riverfront for a 25 minute boat ride to reach your jungle lodge located near the Tambopata National Reserve. After lunch you have the option to hike into the rainforest for an introduction to the amazing flora and fauna of the Amazon. Finish your first day with a twilight river cruise to spot nocturnal creatures. The following day will be a varied mix of activities, from guided walks to exploring by canoe. You will also have the opportunity to see the forest from above via the network of canopy walkways, as well as an evening walk.
Day 15 Puerto Maldonado to Lima
Set off by boat and then fly from Puerto Maldonado back to Lima. Tonight there will be a special farewell dinner at a fantastic restaurant at the base of the pre-Incan site of Huaca Pucllana.
