How it Works
Your Bamba travel pass includes every step of your route using authentic local transport, plus a load of unmissable experiences, so you can rub shoulders with the locals while you see every inch of the ancient Mayan sites, sun-soaked beaches and vibrant cities between Mexico City and Cancun. All journeys and experiences are completely open dated – just book buses and tours on the go through the easy to use app and receive all the information you need to get to the departure point. Bamba recommends taking around 17 days to reach Cancun, but you can travel at your own pace for up to 12 months, or skip a couple of stops and do it quicker if you’re short on time! It’s your adventure to do your way.

Central Mexico
Start your Mexican travels in Mexico City, the country’s buzzing capital and home of the legendary artist Frida Kahlo. Take some time to check out the fascinating museums and markets - and to practise your Spanish - then join your included tour out to the ancient pyramids of Teotihuacan. Learn about the mysteries that surround this site and sample a sacred drink called ‘pulque’, the great-grandfather of tequila, and finish the day with dinner hosted by a local family. Jump on a bus to Oaxaca and embark on an exciting street food tour where you’ll try the region’s most popular dishes and visit the world-famous Oaxacan smoke hall, as well as trying traditional, ancestral drinks.

South Mexico
Head down to the south coast where an expert instructor will teach you how to catch waves in Mexico’s number one surf spot, Puerto Escondido! Next stop is the hidden hippy paradise of Mazunte, a great place to meet other travellers, build on your new surf skills, or just chill out on the beach and enjoy sweeping sunset views. Tear yourself away from the pacific and continue inland to San Cristobal de las Casas, a town famed for its incredibly diverse cuisine. Taste authentic gastronomic delights on an included sustainable foodie experience and hear about the history and significance of each dish. When you’re ready for a day of adventure, book your day trip out to the beautiful Palenque ruins, surrounded by tropical jungle. As well as exploring the awe-inspiring archaeological site, trek to two cascading waterfalls – each with pools where you can cool off with a refreshing dip.

East Mexico
Cross into the state of Yucatan and arrive into Merida. This area is known for its underground waters known as cenotes, which you’ll visit for a relaxing evening of soaking and snorkelling, followed by a traditional meal. Take a tour of mighty Chichen Itza, one of the most important and best preserved Mayan citadels – not to mention one of the Seven Wonders of the World - then journey to the east coast until you reach the town of Tulum. As well as golden beaches and striking cliff top ruins, Tulum boasts an array of particularly spectacular cenotes, so join a bike tour to explore three of these tranquil pools, each with their own unique characteristics. The last stops on your travel pass are only short hops away, so move on at your leisure for some beach time in popular Playa del Carmen, and crazy Vegas style nightlife in Cancun.

Additional Options: Short on time or tight on budget? Check out Bamba's Mexico Highlights Express travel pass for the same route, with a few less stops and included experiences.
