Itinerary
Days 1-3 Mexico City
Discover vibrant Mexico City, explore the Zocaló (main square), Catedral Metropolitana and Palacio Nacional. The following day travel to Basilica de Guadalupe, a revered religious shrine and impressive Teotihuacan.
Day 4 Mexico City to Puebla
Leave Mexico City and head towards the UNESCO listed town of Puebla. Spend the day exploring the colourful and well-preserved historic centreor indulge in some of the country’s iconic cuisine.
Days 5-6 Puebla to Oaxaca
Drive to Oaxaca and spend an afternoon at leisure. The next day visit the impressive archaeological site of Monte Albán, before exploring the colourful markets and bustling square of Oaxaca.
Days 7-8 Oaxaca to San Cristóbal De Las Casas
Fly to Tuxtla Gutiérrez (via Mexico City) and enjoy a boat ride through the spectacular natural reserve of Sumidero Canyon. Explore Chiapa de Corzo before continuing to San Cristóbal de las Casas. On day 8, enjoy a morning a tour of the colonial city centre, before heading into the Chiapas Highlands to visit Tzotzil Indian villages.
Day 9 San Cristóbal De Las Casas to Palenque
Witness the beautiful Agua Azul waterfalls en route to Palenque. Deep in the jungle, this stunning archaeological site showcases some of the finest Mayan sculptures and architecture.
Day 10 Campeche
Drive to Campeche, a historic port city on the Gulf of Mexico coast. Enjoy an afternoon tour exploring the UNESCO listed city centre, hilltop fortresses and colonial-era architecture.
Days 11-12 Campeche to Merida
En route to Merida, stop at the amazing Palace of the Masks in Kabah and the World Heritage listed Mayan site of Uxmal. On the following day take a boat ride through the estuaries of Celestún, one of the world’s largest breeding grounds of pink flamingos*.
Day 13 Merida to Chichén Itzá
Travel to Chichén Itzá and explore this magnificent archaeological site which is set within dense jungle.
Day 14 Chichén Itzá to Cancun
Transfer to Cancun airport or to the Caribbean coast.
*April to May is nesting season for the flamingos and therefore numbers at Celestún are greatly reduced.
