Itinerary

Days 1-3  Georgetown
Arrive in Georgetown and transfer to your hotel. On day 2 meet a local chef for breakfast in Georgetown’s largest market before spending the day visiting some of Georgetown’s key sites including the cathedral, Walter Roth Museum of Anthropology and the botanical gardens, home to an extensive collection of tropical flora. Day 3 is at leisure to further discover Georgetown.

Day 4  Georgetown to Iwokrama Forest Reserve
Travel to the mining township of Linden and then into the rainforest to explore the Essequibo River. Later, arrive at your first lodge situated in the north of Iwokrama, surrounded by protected and untouched tropical forest.

Day 5  Iwokrama Forest Reserve
Wake early for an optional pre-dawn boat trip. After breakfast you’ll travel by motorboat to the Turtle Mountain Trailhead, where you will trek to the summit for incredible panoramic views.  In the afternoon, explore the trails around the lodge with an Iwokrama ranger.

Days 6-7  Iwokrama Forest Reserve
Today head towards the Southern boundary of Iwokrama whilst keepingan eye out for the elusive jaguar. Arrive at your lodge which will be your home for the next two nights. Day 7 is at leisure, perhaps explore the trails around the lodge, experience a canopy tour or go on a nature night walk with your tour leader.

Days 8-9  Iwokrama Forest Reserve to Surama
Embark on a light trek before continuing to Surama, where you’ll visit the local village and take short walks to observe the forest during the day and night. On day 9, rise early for a walk across the savannah before climbing up Surama Mountain where you will be served breakfast with a panoramic view. In the afternoon paddle in a dugout canoe up the Burro Burro River whilst observing the local birdlife.

Days 10-12  Surama to Georgetown
Journey back to Georgetown via Lethem where you will have the evening at leisure. On day 11 take a guided trip along the Atlantic coast whilst learning about the local farming communities and travelling along the intricate waterways by boat. Your trip come to an end after breakfast on day 12.
