Itinerary

Days 1-2 Georgetown
Upon arrival transfer to your hotel. The next day enjoy a tour of Guyana’s thriving capital city. Highlights include the impressive gothic style St George’s Cathedral, the Bourda Market and the beautiful Botanical Gardens.

Day 3 Kaieteur Falls
See one of Guyana’s impressive natural wonders, the remarkable Kaieteur Falls. Surrounded by vast rainforest, this is one of the tallest and most powerful waterfalls in the world.

Days 4-5 Iwokrama Forest Reserve
Leave Georgetown behind and enjoy spectacular views as you fly over the pristine jungle to the incredible Iwokrama Forest Reserve, home to an abundance of wildlife including monkeys and giant anteaters plus a plethora of birdlife. Sail along the river on an exciting night safari in search of caiman, hike to the top of Turtle Mountain for fantastic canopy views, and enjoy boat rides on the river to search for wildlife, if you’re lucky you may spot the magnificent but elusive jaguar.

Days 6-7 Iwokrama Forest Reserve
Transfer to your next lodge and head into the treetops to explore the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway, a series of suspension bridges reaching 30m high. Rise early for a spot of bird-watching in the canopy and enjoy the pristine rainforest surrounds.

Days 8-10 Rupununi Region
Journey to the remote village of Rewa in the Rupununi savannah. Visit a nearby lake covered in the enormous water lily and national flower of Guyana, the Victoria Amazonica, hike to the top of Awarmie Mountain for breathtaking views of undisturbed rainforest, and search for the goliath bird-eating spider known to have a leg span of up to 30cm.

Days 11-12 Rupununi Region
Travel by boat and road to Karanambu. Take a boat trip in search of the fascinating giant otters, which can almost reach an incredible 2m in length, and look for the amazing giant anteater digging out their breakfast from one of the termite mounds which dot the savannah.

Day 13 Rupununi Region
Transfer by boat to your last lodge. Visit the village of Yupukari and interact with some of the local craftspeople. Join local researchers from your lodge as they study black caiman by catching, weighing and tagging these endangered creatures before releasing them back into the river.

Days 14-15 Georgetown
Fly back to Georgetown. Spot birdlife as you meander along the Demerara River and learn about the importance of this waterway to the city’s development. Spend your last day here at leisure before transferring to the airport.

Additional Options: Boasting over 800 bird species and countless mammals, reptiles and amphibians, Guyana is a nature lover’s paradise. From the giant river otter, giant anteater, harpy eagle and the goliath bird-eating spider to the bright orange Guianan cock-of-the-rock and the majestic but elusive jaguar, this is one of South America’s best wildlife viewing destinations.
