Itinerary
Day 1 San José
Arrive in San José and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to discover the city.
Day 2 San José to Tortuguero NP
Travel by road to Tortuguero National Park before boarding a boat to reach your remote jungle lodge and home for the next two nights.
Day 3 Tortuguero NP
This morning, embark on a guided jungle cruise in search of caiman, howler monkeys, sloths and basilisk lizards. In the afternoon, visit the Sea Turtle Conservancy to learn about the research and conservation initiatives to save the Caribbean green turtle from extinction.
Day 4 Tortuguero NP to Arenal
Rise early to travel to La Fortuna, stopping en route at the Mi Cafecito Coffee Cooperative. Learn how they harvest, dry and roast the beans before trying a fresh cup of coffee yourself.
Days 5-6 Arenal
Enjoy two free days to explore Arenal Volcano National Park with optional activities including rafting, waterfall abseiling or soaking in the local hot springs. On the evening of day 5, visit a local home and learn the art of tortilla making.
Days 7-8 Arenal to Monteverde
Make your way by road and boat up to the misty mountain air of the Monteverde Cloud Forest. On day 8, enjoy a nature hike in the Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve.
Day 9 Monteverde
This morning, pay a visit to the Monteverde Institute, a research and educational organization supported by National Geographic. Enjoy a lecture by one of the researchers before playing an active role in planting trees or collecting data. Your afternoon is free to explore this area.
Days 10-12 Monteverde to Manuel Antonio NP
Drive to Manuel Antonio National Park, Costa Rica’s smallest national park. On day 11, explore this popular park’s fabulous beaches and great hiking trails to spot monkeys, armadillos, sloths and over 350 species of birds. Day 12 is free to explore at your leisure.
Days 13-14 Manuel Antonio NP to San José
Return to San José for an optional farewell dinner with your fellow travellers before your tour comes to an end after breakfast on the morning of day 14.
