Itinerary
Day 1 San José
Upon arrival transfer to your hotel near the airport.
Day 2 San José to Osa Peninsula
Fly to Drake Bay and transfer to your jungle lodge to spend the next few days in the astoundingly beautiful and biodiverse Osa Peninsula.
Days 3-4 Osa Peninsula
Hike trails through the dense emerald jungle as you explore the stunning scenery and prolific wildlife of the Osa Peninsula. With two full days you will have the chance to truly immerse yourself in this unique environment.
Day 5 Osa Peninsula to Uvita
Travel to Uvita, located on the Pacific coast near the Marino Ballena National Park, where rainforest-clad mountains loom over secluded beaches. This spectacular national park plays an important role for a number of marine species who migrate here annually, including the humpback whale and Olive Ridley and Hawksbill turtles.
Day 6 Uvita
Take to the water and enjoy a whale and dolphin watching tour*. Look out for these magnificent and playful mammals as you cruise through Marino Ballena National Park.
Day 7 Uvita
Relax with a day at leisure. If you would like to explore further there are a number of experiences available in Uvita, alternatively Manuel Antonio National Park is only a short drive away.
Day 8 Uvita to Turrialba
This morning drive to Turrialba, stopping en route in San Gerardo de Dota for a nature walk with an expert guide. This area is home to a wealth of flora and fauna, including the majestic resplendent quetzal.
Day 9 Turrialba to the Pacuare River
Transfer to the Pacuare River and embark on a rafting adventure. Paddle on grade II-III rapids past cascading waterfalls and exotic wildlife to reach your lodge deep in the rainforest.
Day 10 Pacuare River
Enjoy a day of activities at the lodge or simply relax and soak up the sights and sounds of the forest.
Day 11 Pacuare River to Puerto Viejo
Paddle through dramatic canyons, along grade III-IV rapids back to the town of Siquirres. After a shower and a hearty lunch transfer to Puerto Viejo.
Day 12 Puerto Viejo
Visit the Bri Bri community to learn about the customs and traditions of the South Caribbean indigenous culture.
Days 13-14 Puerto Viejo
Enjoy a couple of days at leisure. Why not explore this area further and visit one of the national parks, or kayak and snorkel in the calm waters of the Caribbean Sea?
Day 15 Puerto Viejo to San José
Transfer to San José.
*Whales migrate to this area from July to April. Outside of these months this day will be at leisure.
Additional Options: With a spectacular location on the north coast of the Osa Peninsula, beautiful Drake Bay is close to both the lush jungle of the Corcovado National Park and the sparkling waters of the Caño Island Biological Marine Reserve. Stay in a charming lodge overlooking the bay and enjoy guided excursions to discover these natural gems.
