Itinerary
Day 1 Santa Cruz
Upon arrival transfer to your hotel. This afternoon enjoy a half day city tour.
Day 2 Santa Cruz to Sucre
Fly to Sucre and explore the whitewashed buildings and colonial plazas of this charming city.
Day 3 Sucre
Today is at leisure. Ask your consultant about adding a visit to Sucre’s Cal Orcko Dinosaur Park to see one of the world’s largest collections of dinosaur footprints.
Day 4 Sucre to Salar de Uyuni
Drive to the Salar de Uyuni via Potosí. Made famous for silver mining, Potosí was once the wealthiest city in South America. Visit the Royal Mint, an important example of civil architecture and now a museum of art and history. Continue to Uyuni to stay in a hotel crafted entirely of salt.
Day 5 Salar de Uyuni
This morning visit the salt museum before exploring the impressive Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt flat on earth. This vast landscape will take your breath away. View the huge cacti on Isla Incahuasi then stop to visit the museum at the foot of the Tunupa Volcano, home to a collection of ancient mummies.
Day 6 Salar de Uyuni
Depart for the colourful mountains of the Cordillera de los Frailes. This mineral- rich region is home to several impressive volcanic lagoons, each different in colour. Explore the incredible landscape and lakes of intense green, light blue and deep red. You will also find vicuñas, alpacas, flamingos and a variety of other wildlife.
Day 7 Salar de Uyuni to La Paz
Fly to La Paz where the rest of the day is at leisure.
Day 8 La Paz to Huatajata
Transfer to Huatajata on the edge of beautiful Lake Titicaca. Visit the Eco Roots Andean Village to learn about the culture and history of this region. Meet the Kallawaya, a group of healers who continue to use traditional natural methods.
Day 9 Isla del Sol
Cruise to Moon Island where the Inca god Viracocha is said to have commanded the moon to rise into the sky. Explore the ruins of the sacred Iñak Uyu Sun Virgins temple before continuing to beautiful Isla del Sol (Sun Island). Later return to Huatajata.
Day 10 Huatajata to La Paz
Drive back to La Paz and visit the fascinating Witches’ Market before exploring the otherworldly landscape of the Moon Valley.
Day 11 La Paz
Transfer to La Paz airport.
Additional Options: Airstream Camper - Why not make an already extraordinary trip that little bit extra special and swap two nights in a salt hotel for a stay in an Airstream Camper in the midst of the Salar de Uyuni?
