Itinerary
Day 1 Belize City
Arrive in Belize City at any time and transfer to your hotel.
Day 2 Belize City to Crooked Tree
This morning visit the atmospheric Mayan ruins of Altun Ha before heading inland to the Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary, an important wetland habitat. Enjoy an evening at leisure in your lodge.
Day 3 Lamanai
Rise early as you board a boat to explore the lagoon. Return for breakfast, before journeying upstream to the 2,000 year old jungle ruins of Lamanai. Surrounded by rainforest, the Maya Ruins are somewhat off the beaten track adding to the aura of mystery.
Day 4 Crooked Tree to Placencia
After breakfast, visit the Community Baboon Sanctuary in search of howler monkeys, who you will see swinging from the trees in their natural habitat. The day ends in the beach resort of Placencia.
Day 5 Placencia
Today is free to explore. Perhaps visit the Laughing Bird Caye, an uninhabited island where you can snorkel directly from the sand shores. Alternatively, relax on the beach at Placencia, soaking up the local life.
Day 6 Placencia to San Ignacio
Spot jaguars at Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary before continuing on the hummingbird highway towards San Ignacio in the Cayo District.
Days 7-8 San Ignacio
Cross the River Mopan by traditional hand-winched ferry to arrive at Xunantunich. The main plaza is dominated by El Castillo, a huge pyramid structure which rises to 40m. Day 8 is at leisure to continue your explorations.
Days 9-10 San Ignacio to Tikal, Guatemala
This morning, cross the border into Guatemala where you will spend the day discovering the Mayan site of Tikal. Explore various temples still covered by a tangle of undergrowth and admire the mesmerising jungle views from the temple tops. On day 10, you have the option to return to Tikal, explore Guatemala’s second largest lake Petén Itzá or simply relax by the pool.
Days 11-12 Tikal to Caye Caulker, Belize
Take a water taxi to Caye Caulker, a tropical island paradise nestled inside the greatest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere and spend the next two days amongst its tropical surroundings. Partake in one of the optional activities available on the island such as snorkelling or visiting a marine reserve.
Day 13 Caye Caulker to Belize City
Transfer by water taxi to Belize City, then onward to the airport where your tour comes to an end.
