Itinerary
Days 1-2 Christchurch to Franz Josef Glacier
Arrive in the beautiful ‘garden city’ of Christchurch and transfer to your hotel. Explore the area before a welcome dinner with your fellow travellers and tour director. On day 2 board the renowned TranzAlpine train for one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the world. Marvel at the stunning alpine scenery and dramatic gorges as you travel through the Southern Alps. Disembark at Arthur’s Pass and travel down the west coast via Hokitika to Franz Josef Glacier.
Day 3 Franz Josef Glacier to Queenstown
A day of incredible scenery lies ahead as you travel alongside the Haast River and enjoy views of towering peaks, waterfalls and rainforests. Arrive in Queenstown where this evening you can choose a Freedom of Choice Dining experience. Options include a meal aboard the TSS Earnslaw, a vintage steamboat or dinner at the Skyline Restaurant with breathtaking views across Queenstown.
Day 4 Queenstown
Join your selected Freedom of Choice Touring activity. Perhaps take a thrilling Shotover Jet boat ride, cruise the crystal-clear waters of Lake Wakatipu or enjoy a wine tour through Otago’s vineyards.
Day 5 Queenstown to Te Anau
Embark on one of New Zealand’s most picturesque drives today along the Milford Road. Drive through the Homer Tunnel and continue to Milford Sound, where you’ll enjoy a spectacular cruise that explores the full length of the mighty Milford Sound before returning to Te Anau.
Day 6 Te Anau to Dunedin
Travel to Dunedin and choose one of the Freedom of Choice Touring activities. Options include a visit to the famous Speight’s Brewery for a tour and tasting or a visit to historic Olveston House.
Day 7 Dunedin to Mount Cook
Journey to Mount Cook and view New Zealand’s highest peak. Join your chosen Freedom of Choice Touring activity, perhaps take a guided walk or visit the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre or enjoy a stargazing experience with an astronomer.
Days 8-9 Mount Cook to Christchurch
Travel north to Christchurch, stopping en route at the picturesque Lake Tekapo and visit the famous Church of the Good Shepherd. Your tour comes to an end after breakfast on day nine with a transfer to the airport.
