Itinerary
Day 1 Negombo
Transfer from the airport to Negombo for a welcome meeting.
Day 2 Negombo to Cultural Triangle
Head inland to Dambulla, a complex of cave temples dating back to the 1st Century. Later, head to Minneriya National Park for an elephant safari.
Day 3 Cultural Triangle
Rise early as you head to Sigiriya also known as Lion Rock. On arrival climb the 200m stairway to the top, ahead of the crowds and whilst it is still relatively cool. In the afternoon, explore the remains of the ancient city of Polonnaruwa.
Day 4 Cultural Triangle to Knuckles Mountain Range
Drive south to the Knuckles Mountain Range for a hike through the regions abundant forests and grasslands. Hike the earth and gravel paths en route to Sir John’s Bungalow, built by the British in the colonial era, where you will spend the night.
Day 5 Knuckles Mountain Range to Kandy
This morning continue south to Kandy. Sat on a plateau 500m above sea level, Kandy is a beautiful town, and is also home to the famous Temple of the Tooth. Take part in an orientation walk on arrival.
Day 6 Kandy
After breakfast, enjoy a trek into the hills above Kandy before an afternoon at leisure to continue your explorations.
Days 7-8 Kandy to Hatton
Depart Kandy by train and take in the scenic journey to Hatton in Sri Lanka’s highlands, also known as ‘Little England’. On day 8, set out around midnight to join the throngs of pilgrims on the ascent to the summit of Adam’s Peak. Witness the incredible views at sunrise before returning to the guest house for a well deserved rest.
Day 9 Hatton to Belihuloya
Board the train again, before disembarking for the hike down The Devils Staircase to reach the impressive Bambarakanda Waterfalls. Later, continue on to Belihuloya where you will camp for the night in pre-erected tents.
Day 10 Belihuloya to Sinharaja Forest Reserve
After breakfast walk through the rice paddies and villages in the Belihuloya area. Drive onwards to Sinharaja Forest Reserve, to stay in the family run Blue Magpie Lodge set amongst peaceful jungle surroundings.
Days 11-12 Sinharaja Forest Reserve to Unawatuna
Enjoy a morning hike through the rainforest with a specialist guide before heading to the seaside village of Unawatuna on the south coast. Day 12 is free to explore the surrounding coastal area of Unawatuna.
Day 13 Unawatuna to Colombo
Catch an early morning train to lively Colombo, enjoying a picnic breakfast en route. On arrival, head straight into the city for a walking tour, the rest of the day is at leisure.
Day 14 Colombo
Your tour ends after breakfast, transfer to the airport at any time.
