Itinerary
Day 1 Negombo
Your adventure begins in the town of Negombo, located close to the international airport.
Day 2 Negombo to Sigiriya
Travel by private vehicle towards Sigiriya, an ancient carved-rock fortress that rises dramatically above the surrounding plains. Get comfortable at your accommodation, then hike up to the 1200 steps of the famed Lion Rock and continue further to the rocky plateau for jaw-dropping views over the nearby Pidurangala Rock.
Day 3 Sigiriya to Knuckles Mountain Range
Today head out to the Minneriya National Park for a jeep safari. The park plays home to a mix of evergreen forest and scrubland, not to mention sambar deer, leopard and elephant. After the safari travel to the Knuckles Mountain Range, your home for the next two nights. Enjoy an evening walk before relaxing by the riverside for dinner.
Day 4 Knuckles Mountain Range
After breakfast start on a rigorous full day trek through the Knuckles region. After winding through the forests and hillsides, perhaps stop at abandoned native villages along the way. Climb Manigala Rock, where views of the valley below and adjacent peaks await.
Day 5 Knuckles Mountain Range to Kandy
Begin your day with a hike through beautiful forest to Knuckles’ renowned Mini World’s End, a dramatic observation point overlooking the Thelgamuwa Valley. After the hike transfer to Kandy and take in picturesque views en route. The rest of day is free for you the explore Kandy so perhaps opt to visit the golden roofed Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
Day 6 Kandy to Hatton
Start the day with a scenic train journey to Hatton. After arriving, cycle directly from the train station to the picturesque village of Norton Bridge. Once arrived at the hotel, opt to hike to Adam’s Peak, passing shrines and food stalls along the way or simply put your feet up with a nice cup of Ceylon tea.
Day 7 Hatton to Weligama
Today pedal downhill through Bogawantalawa, home to premium Ceylon Tea before arriving in Weligama, part fishing village and part beachside resort to perhaps enjoy a surf.
Day 8 Weligama
This morning, after a short drive arrive to small town of Unanwitiya for an exciting day kayaking down the Gin River while keeping an eye out for monitor lizards, colourful birds and the occasional troop of monkeys. After the kayaking continue to the coastal city of Galle for an afternoon cycling tour to marvel at colonial buildings, ancient churches and its crowning jewel, the imposing 17th-century fort. Get to know the city bit more on a walking tour before returning to the relaxed Weligama for a well-earned rest.
Day 9 Weligama to Colombo
Depart Weligama and head to Colombo for a city walk past the bustling Petta Bazaar, Independence Square, Parliament and the National Museum. Find a collection of handicrafts from around the country on your little shopping adventure at the Barefoot fairtrade store.
Day 10 Colombo
Your tour finishes today after breakfast.
