Itinerary
Day 1 Negombo
Arrive in Colombo and transfer to your hotel by the beach. This evening, meet your tour leader and group for a welcome meeting and dinner.
Day 2 Negombo to Habarana
Head to the Ridi Vihara shrine, a Buddhist cave temple dating back to the second Century BC. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before arriving at Habarana, home for the next three nights. Spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure.
Days 3-4 Habarana
Visit magnificent Sigiriya or ‘Lion Rock’ this morning before the heat is too intense. The views from the top are well worth the steep walk up. Enjoy a lunch at a local house before continuing to the village of Muriya Kadawala. Learn about traditional Sri Lankan pottery techniques and try your hand at this craft. This afternoon is spent at leisure. On day 4, visit Polonnaruwa and explore its temples, tombs, stupas and the spectacular Quadrangle by bicycle. Watch a cooking demonstration and have lunch before heading to Minneriya National Park to see elephants in the wild.
Days 5-6 Habarana to Kandy
Head to a spice garden in Matale before arriving in Kandy. Join a guided tour of the city including a visit to Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Start day 6 in Pilimatalawa, meeting a local artisan to learn about the brass work for which this area is known. Next stop is a tea plantation, where you’ll hear from the owner about the cultivation process and enjoy a home-cooked lunch. Later, walk through paddy fields, visit some local temples and an ancient ambalama – a shelter and resting place for pilgrims and travellers.
Day 7 Kandy to Nuwara Eliya
Take a scenic train ride through the tea country to Nuwara Eliya. Tonight’s accommodation is a stunning heritage property filled with charm. Explore the town on a guided walk and visit the Pedro Tea Estate before returning to your hotel.
Days 8-9 Nuwara Eliya to Colombo
Say goodbye to the green hills of Nuwara Eliya and journey back to Colombo stopping en route at the outdoor adventure hub of Kitulgala. Explore Colombo on a guided walk before a final farewell dinner with the group. Your tour comes to an end after breakfast on day 9.
