Itinerary
Day 1 Delhi
Upon arrival transfer to your hotel.
Day 2 Delhi
Enjoy a half day tour of the city’s magnificent Mughal architecture as well as the bustling bazaars of Old Delhi.
Day 3 Delhi to Shimla
Take an early train from Delhi to Chandigarh. Drive up to Dharampur from where you’ll catch the famous ‘toy’ train to Shimla.
Day 4 Shimla
A half day walking tour provides a fascinating insight into Shimla’s rich colonial heritage as the former summer capital of the British Raj. The walk takes in some of the best examples of British architecture in India including the beautiful Christ Church, the Gaiety Theatre, where Rudyard Kipling once trod the boards, and the magnificent Viceregal Lodge.
Day 5 Shimla to Dharamsala
This morning head off on the long scenic drive to Dharamsala. Home to the Dalai Lama and the exiled Tibetan government, Dharamsala and neighbouring McLeod Ganj are colourful small towns in a spectacular mountain setting.
Day 6 Dharamsala
Enjoy a full day tour including visits to the Tsuglagkhang complex containing the residence of the Dalai Lama and the interesting Tibet Museum. Stop at a tea garden before continuing to the pretty village of Naddi, overlooking the snowcovered peaks of the Dhauladhar Mountains.
Day 7 Dharamsala to Amritsar
Drive to the holy city of Amritsar. Late afternoon, head to the border with Pakistan to witness the Wagah border closing ceremony. This elaborate changing of the guards drill is a truly memorable experience.
Day 8 Amritsar to Delhi
Enjoy a half day tour of Amritsar’s landmarks including the spectacular Golden Temple, the holiest of all Sikh shrines. You’ll also pay a moving visit to Jalianwala Bagh, site of the shocking Amritsar massacre of 1919, which today is a national monument set in beautiful gardens. Transfer back to Delhi by train, arriving late evening.
Day 9 Delhi
Transfer to the airport.
