Itinerary
Day 1 The Lake District
Arrive in the Lake District and drive to your hotel near stunning Windermere. Once you’ve settled in, why not walk into bustling Bowness-on-Windermere, nestled on the lakefront. Perhaps enjoy a cruise across the lake this afternoon for your first panoramic views of the surrounding fells and forests from the water.
Day 2 The Lake District
Weather permitting, take part in a favourite Lake District pastime and spend today hiking one of the many fells. With a plethora of peaks and trails to choose from, it’s easy to find the perfect hike for you with the promise of glorious views. After you’ve completed your walk, enjoy a restful afternoon and perhaps reward yourself with a traditional Cumbrian afternoon tea.
Day 3 The Lake District
This morning, why not visit Hill Top Farm, the home of the renowned writer Beatrix Potter. Step into the world of Peter Rabbit and her many, much-loved characters as you explore the pretty cottage and grounds. It’s best to make an early start to beat the crowds, particularly during the summer months. This afternoon, why not take a drive around the vast and stunning Coniston Water, or perhaps visit the attractive village of Hawkshead or explore the bustling town of Ambleside, nestled at the tip of Windermere.
Day 4 The Lake District
Today, drive to Ullswater, widely considered one of the most beautiful of the lakes. Spend some time exploring the idyllic lakeshore or perhaps enjoy a peaceful cruise across the water on one of its traditional steamer ferries. This afternoon, visit the charming village of Grasmere, which was once the home of world-renowned poet, William Wordsworth. Visit Dove Cottage, his former home, to learn more about his life and poetry. Before you leave Grasmere, make sure to sample the famous local gingerbread, so delicious that its recipe remains a closely guarded secret to this day.
Day 5 The Lake District
Drive north this morning to the buzzing town of Keswick, the beating heart of the Lake District. Why not explore its bustling, boutique-lined streets before heading to the beautiful shores of nearby Derwentwater. You can enjoy a leisurely walk around the lake, or, if you’re feeling adventurous, why not hire a kayak to explore the lake and its tiny islands.
Day 6 The Lake District
Enjoy one final morning soaking up the spectacular views on your doorstep before starting your journey home. If you have the time, stop at the picturesque town of Kendal on the outskirts of the national park. Grab a bite to eat at one of its cafés and perhaps treat yourself to its famous mint cake.
