Itinerary
Day 1 York
Arrive into the city and drop off your bags at your hotel before heading out to explore this wonderful city. Spend the afternoon wandering through the winding, 14th Century alleyways of The Shambles, said to be the inspiration behind Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter film series. Originally home to a medieval meat market, today the overhanging buildings house charming tea rooms and pretty boutiques. End the day with a hearty dinner at one of York’s many classic, old-world pubs.
Day 2 York
This morning, stroll along the old city walls and enjoy views of York’s most iconic feature - York Minster Cathedral. Step inside this gothic masterpiece and wonder at the intricate stained glass windows and vast vaulted ceilings before climbing the ancient spiral staircase for stunning panoramic views across the city. For lunch, why not sample the array of cuisine on offer at Spark:York before satisfying your sweet tooth with a visit to York’s Chocolate Story. Learn about the city’s prestigious chocolate heritage and sample some of the country’s most beloved confectionary that stem from York, such as Terry’s, Rowntree’s and Nestle.
Day 3 York
Today, head to Clifford’s Tower for unrivalled views of York Minster and the city centre. The enormous tower is all that remains of York Castle, built by William the Conqueror, and on a clear day the views stretch as far as the rolling North York Moors National Park. This evening, find out why York is considered one of Europe’s most haunted cities. A huge selection of tours are on offer to help you discover the bloodcurdling tales of scandal and death hidden within the city’s Snickelways.
Day 4 York
On your last morning in this enchanting city, why not head to the Yorkshire Museum to soak up the last of this city’s fascinating history? Make sure to visit the gardens to see the ruins of the grand abbey, its walls still frame views of the surrounding rolling countryside. Finally, bid farewell to this breathtaking city and begin your journey home.
