Itinerary
Day 1 Basel
Arrive into Basel and begin exploring this cultural city. Why not start by visiting the Historical Museum? Housed in a 14th Century church, the museum exhibits ancient coins, tapestries and possessions of the legendary theologian Erasmus. Stroll past the impressive Spalentor City Gate with its unique green and gold patterned spire before ending the day in one of the many quaint cafes.
Day 2 Basel
Spend today wandering among the medieval churches, irregular townhouses and brightly painted fountains of the old town. Stop at Basel Minster, easily spotted by its prominent spires, pink sandstone walls and brightly patterned emerald green roof. The St. Gallus doorway showcases Roman stone carvings and the narrow spiral staircase leads to sweeping views across the city. Later, join the locals at the daily market in Martkplatz square with the vibrant red façade of the city hall in the background.
Day 3 Basel
Why not spend today at one of the fascinating art museums on offer? The Museum Tinguely displays the quirky designs of pioneering sculptor Jean Tinguely, renowned for his needlessly complicated machines, or the Kunstmuseum showcases masterpieces by Van Gogh and Monet, and an entire room dedicated to Picasso. Finish today with a stroll to Pfalz terrace for views over the magnificent city and the turquoise Rhine River.
Day 4 Basel
Enjoy your last opportunity to leisurely meander through the medieval streets of this enchanting city before embarking on your journey home.
