Itinerary

Day 1  Beckenried
Arrive in Beckenried at any time.

Days 2-3  Beckenried
The choice is yours for the next two days in Beckenried, enjoy the spectacular Swiss countryside on any of the three walks and explore the city of Lucerne. Tremendous views north across Lake Lucerne are a highlight of the first route, which begins with a cable car ride from Beckenried to the mountain hamlet of Klewenalp. Amble gently across alp and through forest to the Stockhütte cable car. Or catch the local bus to nearby Sagendorf to begin this route through idyllic Swiss farming country with magnificent lake views, to reach Rütli. Return by boat to Beckenried. The third choice is to take a boat to Vitznau, from where Europe’s oldest cog railway takes you to the 1,797-metre summit of the Rigi.

Day 4  Beckenried to Wengen
Leaving Beckenried, you take the bus to Stans, and here connect with a train to the traffic-free village of Wengen. The scenery becomes ever more dramatic as you head deeper into the mountains of the Bernese Oberland.

Days 5-7  Wengen
There is a variety of routes to choose from during your time in Wengen. To make the most of Wengen’s spectacular surroundings, take the cable car to Männlichen, a superb vantage point from which to admire the soaring peaks of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. From here, panoramic paths lead to another classic vantage point, Kleine Scheidegg. Or descend by train from Wengen to Lauterbrunnen, with spectacular waterfall views, before a cable car ride to Grütschalp. From here you follow the gently meandering route of the historic railway which traverses the mountainside to the quaint car-free village of Mürren. You can head by train to Interlaken to catch a boat to the pretty village of Iseltwald. From here, a shady path follows the lakeshore east to reach a funicular leading to the historic Grand Hotel of Giessbach. Earn your tea and cake on the hotel terrace by exploring the series of waterfalls.

Day 8  Wengen
After breakfast your self guided walking tour comes to an end, depart at anytime.
