Itinerary
Day 1 Madrid
Arrive into the lively capital of Spain, Madrid and meet your fellow travellers and travel director for an orientation tour this evening.
Day 2 Toledo
Head to the former capital of Spain, Toledo which dates back to Roman times for a walking tour with a local specialist. Visit a traditional factory to witness the age-old inlaid-steel craft, see El Greco's most famous painting, The Burial of the Count of Orgaz in the Church of Santo Tome and visit the synagogue before returning to Madrid. Admire the Royal Palace and Cibeles Fountain before enjoying an evening at leisure.
Day 3 Madrid to Seville
Journey south through La Mancha to Cordoba, once a magnificent Moorish settlement. With a local specialist, visit the Mosque of the Caliphs and learn of centuries of Moorish rule and its influence on the culture and architecture of the region. Continue to flamboyant Seville and perhaps watch a flamenco show this evening with a tapas dinner.
Day 4 Seville
Meet a local specialist for a sightseeing tour of Seville this morning. View the symbolic Giralda Bell Tower, see the Moorish-inspired Maria Luisa Park and walk through the imposing Plaza de Espana. Marvel at Christopher Columbus's ornate tomb and walk through the Jewish Quarter before joining the Morillo family for dinner at their olive oil mill this evening.
Day 5 Seville to Granada
Visit the magnificent Alhambra today, a fine example of Moorish architecture built towards the end of Islamic rule in Spain. Wander the exotic water gardens and the Royal Summer Palace.
Day 6 Granada to Valencia
This morning, travel via the Mora Pass to Guadix in the northern foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains to see the ochre-coloured cliffs before continuing to Valencia. Upon arrival, see the Bullring and embrace the city's spirit of innovation at the City of Arts & Sciences.
Day 7 Valencia to Barcelona
Travel along the coast to 'the City in the Sky', Peniscola. View the ancient castle built by the Knights Templar, before continuing along the Costa Dorada to whimsical Barcelona. Admire the unfinished work of Gaudi at the Sagrada Familia and see the Placa de Catalunya with a local specialist.
Days 8-9 Barcelona
Spend the day exploring the city at leisure. Perhaps browse Gaudi's fantasy Park Guell or head to the mountain monastery of Montserrat to see the Black Madonna. this evening, join your fellow travellers for a farewell dinner. You tour comes to an end after breakfast on day nine.
