Itinerary
Day 1 Seville
Once you’ve arrived into vibrant Seville, check in to the charming Hospes Las Casas del Rey de Baeza, ideally situated in the heart of the old town. This enchanting, boutique hotel features traditional Andalucían architecture and tranquil courtyards decorated with lush foliage. This afternoon, start exploring the maze of cobbled streets and secret alleys in Seville’s historic centre, before indulging in delicious Spanish tapas this evening.
Day 2-3 Seville
Spend the next couple of days exploring this fascinating city. Discover one of Seville’s most famous landmarks, the UNESCO-listed Real Alcazar. With your included Skip the Line ticket, join a guided tour of this spectacular palace complex with a knowledgeable, local guide. Admire the beautiful blend of magnificent Islamic and Christian architecture and wander amongst the idyllic gardens complete with lush foliage and bubbling fountains. Why not visit Seville’s impressive Gothic cathedral and climb the famous La Giralda bell tower, which boasts breathtaking views over the city rooftops? Or cross the picturesque Guadalquivir River to explore the lively Triana neighbourhood, Seville’s old Gypsy quarter, and perhaps catch a traditional flamenco show one evening.
Day 4 Seville to Cáceres
Set off early this morning to pick up your car, leaving Seville behind you as you head towards Cáceres. Stop en route at Mérida, the capital of Extremadura. This unassuming city is home to a wealth of impressive, ancient monuments, including a beautifully preserved Roman theatre and Temple of Diana. Later, drive to the luxurious Hospes Palacio de Arenales & Spa, perched on the outskirts of Cáceres and your base for the next three nights.
Day 5 Cáceres
Explore Cáceres’ remarkable old town today. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this historic walled city is extraordinarily well preserved. Explore the labyrinth of cobbled streets and pretty plazas lined with grand palaces and ornate churches. Why not delve into the city’s rich history at the Cáceres Museum or perhaps climb the 12th Century Bujaco Tower for lovely views across this fairy tale town. This evening, choose one of Cáceres’ many restaurants to sample authentic local flavours.
Day 6 Cáceres
Just a short drive from Cáceres, you’ll find the stunning landscapes of the Los Barruecos Natural Monument, scattered with glittering lakes and unique granite rock formations. Enjoy a walk along one of the scenic trails and keep your eyes peeled for the white storks, which famously make their home here.
Day 7 Cáceres to Salamanca
Bid Cáceres farewell and head north to Salamanca. Why not break up the drive with a visit to Monfrague National Park, a lush landscape of winding rivers, craggy mountains, and varied birdlife? Later, head to your final hotel, the stunning Hospes Palacio de San Esteban. A former Dominican convent, this beautiful property is surrounded by elegant, manicured gardens and boasts a superb location in Salamanca’s historic heart.
Day 8-9 Salamanca
Sitting pretty on the banks of the Tormes River, Salamanca is a picturesque city of distinctive sandstone buildings and a UNESCO-listed old town. Start at Salamanca’s magnificent cathedral, which looms above the city. Admire its ornate Baroque architecture and look out for the iconic astronaut carving, hidden on its intricate façade. Continue exploring the magical old town; visit the world-famous university, the oldest in Spain, marvel at the striking architecture in the Plaza Mayor, once used as a bull fighting arena, or admire the pretty seashell motifs on the historic façade of Casa de las Conchas. End each evening with an indulgent dinner of local specialties and the region’s fine wine.
