Itinerary
Day 1 Madrid
Arrive into Madrid and transfer to your hotel. Spend your afternoon strolling the Gran Via known as Golden Mile, the capital’s lively main street where you can admire architecture and browse in boutique shops. Later, explore the ancient plazas where old dynasties once ruled and dine at a traditional tapas tavern to sample authentic Spanish cuisine from patatas bravas to gazpacho.
Day 2 Madrid
Head to the impressive Royal Palace and explore its rooms, works of art and treasures. Visit the Prado Museum to see its incredible collection of art, then pass by the Santiago Bernabeu football stadium and check out the trophy room. Enjoy one of the largest parks in Europe, El Retiro Park or perhaps watch a Flamenco show in one of the local bars.
Day 3 Madrid to Toledo
Pick up your car and drive to Toledo and spend your afternoon exploring this beautiful hilltop city, nicknamed the City of Three Cultures. Enroute why not stop at the Royal Palace of Aranjuez, a UNESCO site.
Day 4 Toledo
Toledo is a former capital of Spain and an architectural wonder with a multicultural past. See its historic churches, synagogues and mosques including Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes, Toledo Cathedral and Mosque of Cristo de la Luz. Walk to Mirador del Valle for panoramic views of the impressive Alcázar de Toledo overlooking the city, which is also a famous spot for taking the ultimate photo of Toledo’s historic skyline and admiring the spectacular views at sunset.
Day 5 Toledo to Cuenca
Today, drive to Cuenca and explore the medieval fortified city which is most famous for the Hanging Houses, now a home to a country-style restaurant and Museum of Spanish Abstract Art. Visit the gothic Catedral de Cuenca and its abstract stained-glass windows, later head to San Pablo Bridge, located just above the Huécar River for great views of the Casas Colgadas de Cuenca.
Day 6 Cuenca to Valencia
After morning of exploring Cuenca, drive to Valencia. Enroute you can stop at Hoces del Cabriel Natural Park to explore its natural springs, unique landscapes, gorges, and wildlife. In the afternoon, return the car and try the world famous traditional Spanish delicacy and originally from Valencia – seafood paella!
Days 7-8 Valencia
Valencia is a vibrant city with a mix of old and contemporary architecture and wonderful Mediterranean climate. Famous for its Fallas Festival which takes place every year in March and City of Arts and Sciences museum, Valencia has something for everyone. Stroll the sea front promenade Valencia Marina, watch the sunset at the Malvarossa beach or perhaps take a day trip to the Albufera National Park.
Day 9 Valencia
Following a leisurely morning, transfer to the airport for your flight home.
Additional Options: With a few extra days why not add a stop in Alicante, home to a medieval Old Quarter and iconic mountaintop castle.
