Itinerary
Days 1-2 Ljubljana, Slovenia
Arrive in Ljubljana and transfer to your hotel for the welcome meeting. The following morning take a walking tour to soak up the culture and architecture of this fascinating city, the afternoon is at leisure to explore or take an optional excursion to the beautiful Lake Bled.
Days 3-4 Ljubljana to Zagreb, Croatia
Enjoy a free morning in Ljubljana before taking an afternoon train to Croatia’s capital, Zagreb, your base for the next two nights. On day four take a guided walk of the city before visiting the magical landscape of interconnected lakes and waterfalls that make up the Plitvice National Park.
Days 5-6 Zagreb to Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina
Make your way across the border as you travel to Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia & Herzegovina, your home for the next two nights. The following morning discover the wartime history of this storied city then enjoy some free time in the afternoon, perhaps opting to visit the popular Tunnel Museum.
Day 7 Sarajevo to Mostar
Enjoy a delightfully scenic rail trip from Sarajevo to Mostar as you chug slowly through the dramatic mountains. Upon arrival, take part in a walking tour through the cities winding cobbled stone streets past bazaars and mosques, culminating at the iconic Stari Most bridge.
Day 8 Mostar to Podgorica, Montenegro
Undertake a jam packed journey as you cross the border back to Croatia and then again in to Montenegro. Along the way visit Dubrovnik’s UNESCO World Heritage listed Old Town to wander its ancient streets and stop in the Mediterranean port of Kotor before heading to your base in Podgorica for the night.
Days 9-10 Podgorica to Belgrade, Serbia
Embark on one of the most scenic rail routes in Europe today as you journey past a backdrop of gorges, canyons and snow-capped mountains en route to your base for the next two nights in Belgrade, Serbia. On day 10, visit the country’s second largest city, Novi Sad and enjoy a guided tour before returning to Belgrade for a traditional Serbian barbecue dinner.
Days 11-12 Belgrade to Skopje, North Macedonia
Begin the day with a guided tour through Belgrade and discover the many eras of history that the city has survived before venturing across the border to Skopje, North Macedonia where you will be based for the next 2 nights. Day 12 offers the chance to discover the rich historical culture of this peaceful city on a morning orientation tour with the afternoon at your leisure to explore further.
Day 13 Skopje to Bitola
Head to the bustling riverside city of Bitola where you will spend the night. Upon arrival head out to discover the ancient remains of Heraclea that date back to the 4th Century BC including an amphitheatre, previously used to house gladiatorial combat.
Day 14 Bitola to Ohrid
Drive through the stunning Galicia National Park past mountains, lakes and caves as you make your way to Ohrid. Discover the 3,000 year history of this ancient town and even take a boat ride out on to the lake to see it from a different angle.
Days 15-16 Ohrid to Pristina, Kosovo
Journey through the Macedonian landscape as you visit the forests, fields and waterfalls of the Mavrovo National Park, even passing North Macedonia’s highest mountain, Mount Korab. Cross the border in to Kosovo where you will enjoy your final night, maybe sample the local dishes with your group as a farewell dinner. The tour ends the following day after breakfast.
