Itinerary
Day 1 Bergen
Make your way from the airport to the historical city of Bergen and board your Hurtigruten cruise. Set sail this evening along Hjeltefjord, an old Viking route.
Day 2 Alesund
Continue along the rugged coastline. Today you have a full day to explore the Art Nouveau city of Alesund. Wander the picturesque streets by the Brosundet canal or perhaps climb the steps up Mount Aksla for wonderful panoramas of the city and mountains.
Day 3 Trondheim
Enjoy several hours to discover Trondheim’s highlights, the former Viking Capital. Visit the beautiful Nidaros Cathedral and stroll the streets of the Bakklandet district, known for its colourful wooden buildings. This afternoon, continue along the coast passing picturesque lighthouses and inlets.
Day 4 Arctic Circle
Today cross the Arctic Circle, celebrated with a traditional ceremony to mark the occasion. As you travel further north, the higher the chances of seeing the magical Northern Lights dance across the sky. Enjoy a short stop in the compact city of Bodo, perhaps opt for an optional shore excursion to Saltstraumen, one of the world’s most powerful tidal currents. Later this evening, disembark in the charming fishing town of Svolvaer in the dramatic Lofoten Islands.
Day 5 Svolvaer
Settle into your cosy Rorbu, a traditional wooden fisherman’s cabin known for their distinct red exteriors and picture-perfect backdrops. During your stay look out for the Northern Lights while you relax and unwind in this incredible setting. Perhaps make use of the floating sauna with large glass windows that look out across the fjords. Hire snowshoes and enjoy a scenic hike or join a tour to visit some of the Lofoten Islands most iconic viewpoints dusted in snow.
