Itinerary
Day 1 Longyearbyen
Arrive into Longyearbyen airport and transfer to your hotel in the town centre. If there’s time, visit the Svalbard Museum to learn about the history, flora and fauna of this fascinating region.
Days 2-3 Longyearbyen
Enjoy two days of action-packed arctic activities under the midnight sun. You’ll take a full day trip aboard a hybrid-electric catamaran to visit first imposing Nordenskiold glacier, then the fascinating abandoned town of Pyramiden. Once home to over 1000 people in the 1980s, the settlement was abruptly abandoned when the coal mine closed. Take an educational tour of the town, seeking out the local wildlife that live alongside the residents and spend an evening around the fire learning about the ‘King of the Arctic’, the regal polar bear on an evening excursion to the wilderness cabin at Camp Berentz.
Day 4 Cruise Embarkation
Days 5-7 Svalbard Northern Region
Svalbard’s northern region is home to breathtaking fjords, stunning bays and impressive glaciers. You’ll be able to get up close to some of the most spectacular glaciers on small Zodiac cruises or join interesting hikes to explore Arctic landscapes and hunt for the fascinating wildlife including reindeer and the arctic fox.
Days 8-10 Svalbard Southern Region
You’ll find several large fjords in Svalbard’s southern region, all of them offering great scenic variety and beauty. Travel to Spitsbergen’s west coast which is more easily accessible and as a result, remains of mining history, whaling stations and scientific settlements can be found and visited. Depending on the time of the season, glaciers can also be visited on foot or by sea.
Days 13-15 Scoresby Sund
As the largest and longest fjord system in the world, Scoresby Sund showcases all the natural wonders that Greenland has to offer. Marvel at the vastly different backdrops from black mountains covered with permanent ice to the jagged cliffs surrounded by calm waters and vast icebergs.
Rich in Arctic wildlife, keep your eyes peeled for arctic foxes, belugas, walrus and seals. It is also one of the best places in the world to see polar bears in their natural habitat, an experience that will never be forgotten.
Day 16 Ittoqqortoormiit
Ittoqqortoormiit is the only small town of Scoresby Sund and as such, one of Greenland’s most isolated settlements. Visit this picturesque community where you will have some free time to explore.
Days 18-20 Reykjavik
Disembark in Reykjavik and make your way to the Retreat at the Blue Lagoon. Your epic holiday comes to an end after two nights in this luxurious and tranquil spa escape.
