Itinerary

Day 1  Pisa to Braccicorti
Arrive in Pisa and transfer to your farmhouse accommodation (a few miles from Braccicorti), your home for seven nights.
Day 2  Orecchiella NP
Take a short drive to the village of Pruno and begin walking in the Orecchiella National Park. Steadily climb to the Sella di Campiana, a Col providing wonderful views, before reaching the summit of Pania di Corfino. Enjoy a picnic lunch, and then descend to the 16th Century village of Campiana following a mule track across the mountain.

Day 3  Alpi Apuane NP
The small village of Vianova marks the start of today’s walk into the Alpi Apuane National Park. The forest path soon clears for a viewpoint across the face of Pania della Croce and the Omo Morto range. From here, it’s an upward track to the walls of Monte Sumbra for fantastic views of Lago di Vagli far below. Descend by an old charcoal trail through the woods.

Day 4  Castiglione di Garfagnana
Today’s walk begins directly from the farmhouse. Follow tracks, quiet lanes and footpaths through farmland and observe the relaxed village life. Arrive at the small, but beautiful, medieval walled town of Castiglione di Garfagnana. After lunch, cross a 13th Century bridge on the walk back to your accommodation using easy trails.

Day 5  Braccicorti
Enjoy a day at leisure where you may choose to relax by the pool at your lodge. Alternatively, Florence is three hours by train, the stunning fortified city of Lucca is one hour away or the UNESCO world heritage site of the Cinque Terre is a two hour journey away.

Day 6  Campocatino
Drive around the Lago di Vagli reservoir to the start point of today’s walk at Vagli Sotto. Walk through quiet chestnut and beech woods to the 16th Century shepherds village of Campocatino. It’s a beautiful location with dramatic terraced meadows. Continue on a forest track to a commanding viewpoint, before reaching San Viviano’s hermitage built into a rock face. Take a relaxed lunch here before descending via a quarry road.

Day 7  Appennino Tosco-Emiliano NP
The last walk of the holiday is arguably the most stunning. Beginning at the small ski resort of Casone, you’ll follow the Crinali ridge, a section of the epic Apennine ridge in the Appennino Tosco Emiliano National Park. The views are amazing all the way to the peak of Monte Prado, Tuscany’s highest mountain at over 2,050m. Descend to Rifugio Cella for a break at the small shepherd’s hut, before taking a path through the woods back to Casone.

Day 8  Braccicorti
Your tour ends this morning in Braccicorti.
