Itinerary
Day 1 Reykjavik
Welcome to Reykjavik, the world’s most northerly capital and the starting point of your Icelandic adventure. Enjoy a complimentary airport transfer to your hotel and settle in before meeting your tour leader and fellow travellers for a 6pm welcome meeting.
Day 2 Reykjavik to Hvolsvollur
After breakfast, head to the historically important Thingvellir National Park. Visit the spouting hot springs of Geysir and Strokkur before driving to the spectacular Gullfoss, Iceland’s largest waterfall. This evening you’ll have the unique pleasure of staying on a working family farm in the Icelandic countryside. After your visit, head to your base for the evening in Fludir.
Day 3 Hvolsvollur to Skaftafell National Park
Begin your day travelling through the lava fields of the Laki volcanic eruption in 1783. Next is Skaftafell National Park where you’ll come face-to-face with Vatnajokull, Europe's biggest glacier. Carry on to some of the country’s most impressive, uninterrupted scenery and discover the Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon, your feature stay for this evening.
Day 4 Skaftafell National Park to Reykjavik
Drive through the beautiful scenery of Iceland’s South Shore. Wander past the impressive basalt sea stacks. Marvel at the colours of glaciers spilling down the Mountains and admire the spectacular Skogafoss Waterfall. Continue to Seljalandsfoss waterfall before returning to Reykjavik for the an evening at your leisure.
Day 5 Reykjavik to Snaefellsnes
After breakfast, enjoy a city tour of Reykjavik. Following the tour, you will depart Reykjavik and head to the remote and geographically fascinating Snaefellsnes Peninsula. On your way visit the Borgarfjordur area and be amazed by the stunning waterfalls of Hraunfossar and Barnafossar, then continue to Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring. Reap the benefits of your surroundings during a relaxing dip in the Krauma thermal pools. This evening, enjoy a lovely dinner and after go in search of the elusive dancing lights.
Day 6 Snaefellsnes
Today you will explore the Snaefellsnes peninsula, taking in glaciers, ice capped volcano's, lava formations and coastal wildlife. Enjoy a local home-made dinner before heading back to your accommodation for another evening in search of the aurora borealis.
Day 7 Snaefellsnes National Park to Reykjavik
Today you will return to Reykjavik. On the drive, your leader may share some stories of Norse mythology, so keep an eye out for elves and fairies along the way. The rest of your day is at your leisure. Maybe take in a whale watching tour or enjoy the excellent art galleries in the city.
Day 8 Reykjavik
Your Icelandic journey comes to an end after breakfast this morning.
