Itinerary

Day 1  Reykjavik          
Arrive into Reykjavik and transfer to your hotel. Join your travel director and fellow travellers for a welcome reception this evening.  

Day 2  Reykjavík to Vík      
Head east to Iceland's newest geothermal and electric power station, Hellisheidavirkjun. Continue to the hot springs at Geysir and the mighty Gullfoss Waterfalls, then to the ancient bishopric of Skalholt to see the historic church set in a remote location. Visit the mighty falls of Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss before taking in the breathtaking south coast and the famous black sand beach en route to Vik.  

Day 3  Vík to Höfn          
Drive along the southern coast of Iceland, beside the black basalt sand beaches to the National Park at Skaftafell to see the largest glacier in Europe, Vatnajokull. Travel on to the luminous blue icebergs of Lake Jökulsárlón and the small harbour town of Hofn. Upon arrival, embark on an orientation tour and enjoy dinner of some of the local delicacies.  

Day 4  Höfn to Egilsstaðir          
Explore the eastern coastal region, where Irish missionary monks lived almost 1,200 years ago. Later, travel up the fjords to the beautiful area around Egilsstaðir.

Day 5  Egilsstaðir to Akureyri          
Journey through the sand desert of Mödrudal to the Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe and continue to the beautiful Lake Mývatn to admire the numerous geological formations of the region. See Godafoss, known as ‘The Waterfall of the Gods' and continue to Akureyrifor an evening at leisure.

Day 6  Akureyri to Borgarnes          
Enjoy an orientation tour of Akureyri, the capital of northern Iceland, before continuing your journey west past mountains and waterfalls to Borgarnes.  

Day 7  Borgarnes          
Travel along the Snæfellsnes Peninsula to Snæfellsjökull National Park, known as the Jewel of West Iceland and home to the country's most famous volcano. Enjoy an exploration of the park's famous sites including Snaefell Glacier and Budir, a romantic landscape of white sandy hills and black lava fields and walk along the sea cliff to see its spectacular columnar rock formations.  

Day 8  Borgarnes to Reykjavík      
Continue south to Thingvellir. This remarkable UNESCO World Heritage site lies on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge line where the American and European tectonic plates meet. Continue to Reykjavik and opt to either embark on a city tour to see the Old Harbour, National Museum, Domkirk Church and Reykjavik's House of Parliament or head to the Blue Lagoon to relax in the mineral-rich geothermal waters.

Day 9  Reykjavík          
After breakfast, your tour comes to an end and a transfer will take you to the airport for your flight home.
